There are more than 200 million blind people in the world today, with corneal blindness as the second leading cause. South Africa has a population of 52 million people, with 80% of the population accessing the public health sector. There is no organisation that is primarily dedicated to the fight against corneal blindness in South Africa. The Cornea Foundation aims to improve access to modern corneal diagnosis and management. The gift of sight, gives the gift of education and independence.

MISSION STATEMENT

Provide access to modern corneal diagnosis and management procedures to patients in public hospitals. 

The Foundation is committed to providing PUBLIC patients with access to advanced corneal management that includes:

  • corneal transplant procedures

  • collagen cross-linking

  • advanced medical therapy

  • modern diagnostic technology

  • refractive solutions for corneal disease

  • research in corneal diagnosis and management

  • patient education and awareness

How are your donations used

Donations are directed to the annual targets for the year, with corneal tissue for transplantation the first priority. The foundation relies on volunteers and uses only 2.5% of the funds towards running costs.
